Ballet by Raquel Yeo
Raquel began her classical ballet training at a tender age of 6. She has attained the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Advanced 1 certification in classical ballet. She has also been educated in other dance genres such as Chinese dance and Latin ballroom dances. In 2008, she was given the opportunity to train at the prestigious Beijing Dance Academy for a week.
Being a seasoned dancer and performer for more than two decades, Raquel has taken part in numerous dance productions and performances for brands like OMEGA Watches and The Westin Singapore. In 2015, she was placed fifth in the RAD Dance Challenge as a choreographer and competitor.
As a passionate ballet dancer herself, Raquel hopes to impart her knowledge of dance to the next generation. She holds the Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies and is currently a RAD Registered Teacher. She believes in maximising her students’ dance potential and performance through supplementary fitness training, which has led her to be a certified instructor for Marie Walton-Mahon’s Progressing Ballet Technique and the flexibility training programme by FLX.
In addition, Raquel has graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Education) from the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University. She also holds a Diploma in Communications and Media Management and a Certificate in Psychology Fundamentals from Temasek Polytechnic.
Royal Academy of Dance
Pre-Primary in Dance
Duration: 1 hour
Class Attire: Leotard, tights, skirt (for girls only), soft ballet shoes
Pre-Primary in Dance and Primary in Dance are the introductory grades of the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) graded examination syllabus. The curriculum aims to develop students’ strength, flexibility, coordination, creativity, expression, and musicality. These foundational grades prepare students for the higher levels.
A beginner student dancer is recommended to commence training at the Pre-Primary in Dance grade. After a year of training, he/she may be promoted to the Primary in Dance grade based on the educator’s professional assessment. At the end of the Primary in Dance grade, students may be given the option to be formally assessed by the RAD Examinations Board.
This class is suitable for children age 5 and above.
Level 1 Non-Syllabus Adult Ballet Class
Duration: 1 hour
Class Attire: Leotard/fitting top, leggings, grip socks/soft ballet shoes
You will learn the fundamental steps of classical ballet and perform simple combinations primarily at the barre to prepare for centre practice.
The exercises are tailored to help you deepen your knowledge in ballet and develop your technique. You will develop core and back strength to improve postural alignment while inherently strengthening other parts of the body and increasing flexibility, directionality, balance, and weight transfer skills.
This class is suitable for adults who have no prior experience in dance or are looking to rekindle your relationship with ballet.
