How To Care For Your Dance Shoes

Now, our dance shoes can get really stinky after a while. You know what I mean! We just want to make sure that we prolong the life of our dance shoes by keeping them clean and smelling great! That’s important. Just a couple of things that we need. It’s going to be really quick and simple that you can do at home. You need baking soda, some paper towels, a cloth (ideally a light-coloured one, preferably white), and a little bit of laundry detergent (detergent only for once in a long while if you need your shoes really clean).

Let’s do the easiest and fastest way to remove the smell from all of your dance shoes. There are two ways that you can use baking soda for your shoes. The first way is to sprinkle baking soda directly onto your shoes, leave them overnight, and it will absorb all of the smell. Another way is to wrap the baking soda in a paper towel, or some people even use socks which works too, to put it into the shoe so that it absorbs some of the smell.

Now, it is important to make sure that you line the table or whatever surface you’re using to put your shoes; newspaper works too. Once you have your shoes on the paper towels, grab some baking soda, and sprinkle it over. Just be sure you don’t use this baking soda for cooking after that! What I like to do is to sprinkle lots of baking soda all over to make the smell go away. The other thing that you can do is to put baking soda inside your shoes, all the way to your toes, and am the way at the back. Now, once you’re done sprinkling your baking soda, leave it overnight, and the smell will be gone! Just dust it away after that and you’re good to go!

Grab a piece of paper towel and put some baking soda in the center. I like to use a lot of baking soda. Now, what you’re going to do is wrap up the baking soda in the paper towel, and you’re just going to stuff it slow the way into the toe box of the shoes. This is especially great for people that do not like baking soda directly on their shoes, because it will still absorb the smell of your dance shoes from this method.

For some people who really want to make sure that their dance shoes don’t smell, what you can also put in your dance shoe bag is either a tea bag or some baking soda inside a pouch, and just leave it in your shoe bag. Just a tip!

Now, here’s another method. If your shoes are really stained and you really want to wipe it off, there is a way to do it. You just have to be really gentle and the reason why we don’t want to scrub it too hard is because all these are also delicate fabrics. We want to remove the stains but still make sure that the use and functionality of the shoes remains there. So what we’re going to do is just grab a towel, dip it in a little bit of water, and gently wipe the shoes. Repeat this process with different parts of the shoe that you think is a little bit dirty.

For those of you who really want to wash your shoes, especially if it’s closer to your performance, then we recommend washing your shoes in water. What we’re going to do is have some cold water in a basin, just use a tiny little bit of laundry detergent (just make sure there’s no bleach), pour a tiny bit out, mix it really well in the water. Then, grab your shoe and a towel, and gently wipe the shoe with the wet towel over the basin. Once you’re done gently scrubbing your shoe, you can dunk it in the water a few more times, dry it with a separate towel, and leave it to dry overnight. Maintain your shoe by washing it, cleaning it, and then leaving it out to dry fully.
