Skirts Sewing Course

Long flowy skirts, short wrap skirts, big circle skirts? We got you! Learn different techniques for working with the many types fabrics to make skirts of your choice. For a day out or to dance your way in class! You must be familiar with working on a sewing machine. If you are not familiar with a sewing machine, join our Basics Sewing Workshop instead. This workshop is recommended for those who have finished our leotard, crop tops and briefs sewing workshops.


4 Sessions Workshop – 3 hours per session (12 hours total)

Here at Free Movement, we promise a small student to teacher ratio to ensure each student gets the assistance and attention they need.

What you will learn:
  • Drawing a pattern based on your measurements
  • Understanding circle skirts 
  • Learning the flow of skirts 
  • Be aware of the purpose of different types of fabrics for skirts especially in a dance setting
  • Understanding fabric grain lines and how to identify them for maximum stretch
  • Pinning and cutting stretch fabric
  • Using the right seam for joining and finishing
  • Hemming and clean-finishing seams
  • Handling and applying elastic to waistbands
  • Seek the perfect length for your skirt
  • Finding the right fit for your body type
  • Work with different types of fabrics such as Spandex, Chiffon, Cotton and more

You will be advised on what materials to get by the end of the first session. This course will focus on sewing the bottoms of different lengths, it will not include embellishments and rhinestoning work. Head over to our other workshops to learn how to embellish with appliqués and rhinestones.



All sewing tools and machines will be provided. Fabrics, accessories and embellishments will NOT be provided. You may purchase our fabrics and embellishments online or after class. 

Additional sewing studio time is charged at $30/hour.
